Nike Swoosh Writing Assignment

When was the logo originally created? How does the original logo design differ from the current logo design and why? Does the current logo design retain any elements from the original logo design? What is the meaning of the logo design? What does it symbolize?

The Nike "swoosh", is a trademark logo developed by Carolyn Davidson. Since the beginning of the business, Nike has always used the swoosh as their logo. When Davidson first presented the logo sketch to the Nike executives they were not enthralled, however they said that it might grow on them, and I think it did. Up until 1995 Nike featured its name using Futura Bold, all-caps font, cradled within the swoosh. In 1995, the company dropped the words in the logo to just have the swoosh, an act of debranding that will lead to the company being recognized globally. The current logo still has the swoosh, just no words following it. The Nike swoosh took Davidson 17.5 hours to complete, and she was paid for the then outrageous price of $35, which the creators of Nike asked her to wait to cash. The swoosh was designed to be a simple logo, but one that had positive connotation and a never-give-up spirit. The simplicity of it was meant for the brand recognition, as the other side was meant to attract and inspire athletes. The symbolism associated with the Nike swoosh is to never give up, and you can do anything attitude. The Nike swoosh follows under the 5th type of logo design, as it is a design followed by the name of the company.
